High School Student Internship Program
Our goal is to help high school students interested in a career in health or medicine get on the path to success. We currently offer a two year program for high school juniors and seniors called the Medical Career Collaborative (MC²). If accepted, students will gain experience in and exposure to the issues and careers in healthcare. Through the following activities, students get a jump start on their future:
- Medical Field Trips
Students participants attend monthly field trips to medical facilities and programs around the Denver Metro area. Some trips are internal at Children's Hospital Colorado and other are off campus at other health institutions.
- Internships at Children's Hospital Colorado
Student participants will be eligible for paid internships at Children's Hospital Colorado. Students are placed various departments around the hospital in areas such as Orthopedics, Radiology, Inpatient Units, Speech & Audiology, Emergency, the Newborn Center, and the Laboratory, to name just a few. Internships occur during one of three sessions, fall, spring and summer. Fall and spring sessions are 12 weeks and students work roughly 10 hours a week while the summer session is 6 weeks and students work 30 hours a week.
Each student is matched with a mentor at Children's Hospital Colorado with whom they work and learn during their internship.
- Personal and Professional Development Opportunities
Participating students experience a number of trainings and workshops that are designed to build students’ personal and professional competencies. Personal leadership skills, communication workshops, First Aid and CPR training are a few examples of the opportunities throughout the year.
- Pre-collegiate Assistance
The MC² program offers students assistance in their goals toward post-secondary education. Students are given help in searching for schools/programs, completing applications, compiling materials, filling out financial aid information, searching and applying for scholarships, gathering letters of recommendation, and writing essays.
