We are not only committed to restoring sick and injured children to health but to preserving their well-being as well. All of us were horrified over the senseless massacre that occurred last week at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Twenty children and six adults, including the perpetrator's mother, were unconscionably shot multiple times and killed. As we all mourn as a nation, we also ask why and begin, for the hundredth time, asking how to prevent such heinous acts from occurring ever again.

A friend once told me that the difference between Democrats and Republicans is that one likes to tax and spend and the other likes to spend and borrow. Obviously reduced spending is critical regardless of the source of funding. Americans are adamantly opposed to higher taxes and our current debt has exceeded our capacity to cover it.

On September 23, the Affordable Care Act was implemented as part of national healthcare reform. This legislation ensures that no insurance company may deny children coverage due to pre-existing conditions. As a result, insurance companies dropped their child-only insurance plans, which threatened to limit children’s access to affordable health care.
