Areas of Interest

Clinical Interest for Patients
As a Plastic Surgeon, I specialize in reconstructive surgery for pediatric patients with clefts, traumatic injuries (i.e. facial fractures and soft tissue wounds) of the face, congenital or traumatic soft tissue abnormalities of the body or extremities, and reconstructive surgery after cancer. With additional training and Board-Certification as an Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon), I have a special interest and expertise in nasal surgery, ear surgery (i.e. otoplasty and microtia), and cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the scalp, face, and neck. I also have an adult cosmetic and reconstructive practice at University of Colorado Hospital which focuses on complex reconstruction and microvascular surgery after cancer surgery.

Volunteer Activities
I am a plastic surgeon for Children of the Americas, Inc., a nonprofit medical group that provides surgical care to the children of Guatemala.

Research & Grants

Research Interest for Patients
My research activities have focused on the clinical epidemiology of head and neck cancer and the effectiveness of different reconstructive and treatment interventions for pediatric and adult patients. Issues of quality of life and cost-effectiveness have also been basic themes. My clinical research focuses on functional outcomes after head and neck reconstruction, complex clinical outcomes after pediatric and adult facial fracture management, facial reanimation, and the genetics of facial clefting. I have published over 60 articles and book chapters in Plastic Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery and Cleft-Craniofacial Surgery.
