Clinical Interest for Patients
  Dr. Deterding is a tenured Professor of Pulmonary Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital. She completed her medical training and residency in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University and completed Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship training at the University of Colorado. She was recently selected and completed the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program. She is currently the Medical Director of the Pediatric Breathing Institute at the Children’s Hospital, an innovative Institute designed to expand interdisciplinary programs and improve outcomes, clinical care and new treatments for children with breathing problems. She is recognized as an international expert in the care of children with rare interstitial and diffuse lung disease, with research interests in biomarkers, proteomics, and defining clinical phenotypes. As the Director of The Children’s Interstitial Lung Disease Research Network (ChILDRN), she is leading efforts to develop an international diffuse lung disease database and collaborative community of patient families and investigators. Other leadership efforts have included the development of multiple educational initiatives. She led the successful creation of the new undergraduate medical student curriculum at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as the Associate Dean of Clinical Curriculum, directed the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Training Program in Colorado and has been the President of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP), a national organization of pediatric educators. She is current a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Pediatric Leadership Alliance (PLA), dedicated to improving leadership training in pediatrics. Dr. Deterding has over 60 publications and has had grant funding in medical education, clinical trials, and clinical science. She has received numerous teaching awards and has consistently been recognized as one of Denver’s 5280 Top Doctors and Best Doctors in America.
