Baby Eva Hears for the First Time

One moment Eva Riggs is an ordinary baby playing with her dolls; the next she hears sound for the first time, her life forever changed as she learns to redefine everything she knows with sound.

At 13 months old, Eva did not know her mother by the sound of her soothing voice, nor did she associate the sound of guitar strings with her father. She did not identify her four-year-old brother by the sound of his teasing. Since birth, Eva was deaf, and now at Children's Hospital Colorado, she hears for the first time.

A Mountain of Smiles in Winter Park

For 41, years Children's Hospital Colorado has been giving patients a chance to live, laugh and ski through the Hospital Ski Program. Emily Bartlett, 12, who has been in the ski program for two years, understands that you need to have a positive outlook on life. Two years ago she had her left leg amputated below the knee because of a vascular malformation. Her instructor in the ski program, Gwen Tschorke, was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have her left leg amputated over twenty-four years ago. Watch the Video from 9News.com
