March of Dimes Celebrates 75th Anniversary
March of Dimes State Director Kathryn Marshall knows what it’s like to have a premature baby in the Children’s Hospital Colorado NICU. Raising her daughter, who is now 7, has fueled her passion at March of Dimes to partner with Children’s Colorado to help families in the NICU and to fund research that will lower the number of premature births and birth defects.
“They told us that Jordan may never be able to walk, talk, ride a bike. Thankfully, because of the care, treatment and medications she received while at Children’s Hospital Colorado and what has been developed by the March of Dimes, she’s here today,” said Marshall.
Premature birth is one of the leading causes of babies not surviving, however, because of March of Dimes the rates of premature births are on the decline; Colorado has seen a five-year improvement in those rates.
