Always improving: what we measure and how we do it
What do we measure?
We measure a wide range of cases, such as preventable infections, to make Children's Colorado safer for our patients and families.
What public health information is available?
In addition to our own data, several organizations track quality and safety measures. We've provided a list of resources for patients, families and the community.

Ranked one of the nation’s best
Children's Hospital Colorado has been caring for kids for more than 100 years and is recognized as one of the nation’s most outstanding pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. We’re known for our full range of care for kids throughout Colorado and surrounding states, our breakthrough medical research and family education programs as well.
We have award-winning nurses
We have also been named a Magnet status hospital since 2005. This distinction, awarded to only 6% of hospitals in the country, is the ultimate measure of nursing excellence and patient outcomes. Learn more about our awards and honors here.
We use technology to bring doctors together
Children's Colorado is one of the first free-standing children's hospitals in the nation to use a fully integrated electronic health record system. The system enables doctors and other caregivers to gain appropriate electronic access to patient records, whether they are at our hospital, their office or any another location.
The value of experience
Our pediatricians and staff have unmatched experience with both common and rare child illnesses. And because of the spirit of collaboration at Children’s Colorado, your child’s health immediately becomes the focus of the right pediatric specialist.
In addition to our location on Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Children’s Colorado offers a wide range of outpatient specialty clinics and emergency care locations throughout the region. From sports medicine and audiology to neurology and cardiology—even after-hours, urgent and emergency care—Children’s Colorado brings specialized pediatric care closer to home.
At Children's Hospital Colorado, our healing goes well beyond medicine. We do whatever it takes to make kids physically and emotionally comfortable, so they can heal faster and get home sooner. In 2014, Children's Hospital Colorado held 593 licensed inpatient beds across all our locations.
American Hospital Association-McKessen Quest for Quality Award
Children’s Hospital Colorado was recently named the winner of the 2015 American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Award. Children’s Colorado is only the second children’s hospital to win the award in its 14-year history. The award recognizes hospitals for their commitment to making six quality aims a reality: safety, patient-centeredness, effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness and equity. The Quest for Quality judges were impressed by Children’s Colorado’s commitment to high quality, safe patient care in every department, both clinical and non-clinical.

What makes us different?
We use evidence-based care
Children's Hospital Colorado uses evidence-based care to help our doctors and staff in making decisions about safe, effective tests and treatments. This keeps us continually up to speed on what works by using science, research and technology. Evidence- based care, backed by scientific research, can also mean less time in the hospital—and less stress on you and your child.
We have board-certified doctors
Our board-certified doctors are experts in their specialty and/or sub-specialty of pediatric medicine. This means they have gone through intensive training and passed all tests required to achieve this highest level of certification. In addition to completing years of school and residencies, and passing medical exams required by the state of Colorado, our board-certified doctors must also stay up to date on new techniques, science and technology.
We have more than 3,000 pediatric experts
Pediatric experts are doctors who train in pediatrics after medical school and get additional training in a sub-specialty, such as infectious disease, surgery or neurology. This adds up to six or more years of post-graduate medical education specific to children. And it’s not just our doctors who have years of training. Take comfort in the fact that many of our nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians, social workers, child life specialists and counselors are also specifically trained in pediatrics. Just ask. Most of our caregivers have years of formal training in children’s health in addition to a general medical education. Learn why kids need a children's hospital.
