Cardiac Kids Group at Children's Hospital Colorado
Cardiac Kids is a group of volunteers at Children’s Hospital Colorado that offers support to kids who have congenital heart conditions and their parents. Many of these volunteers are former patients or parents of children with heart disease who have been treated at our Heart Institute. This gives them a unique perspective on what it’s like to manage a congenital heart condition.
What does the Cardiac Kids group do?
Cardiac Kids hosts volunteer activities and meet-and-greet events throughout the year. They also organize a weekend conference every fall that is open to the public, in addition to various events such as Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day, an annual picnic, an annual pumpkin patch and a water park day that all raise money for the Cardiac Kids College Scholarship.
Cardiac Kids Conference
At the Cardiac Kids Conference, you can learn more about congenital heart defects, the latest research and treatments for conditions, local resources that are available to your family and related conditions like Down syndrome.
A Resource Guide and Journal for Parents
The Cardiac Kids group also distributes Cardiac Kids: Parents' Resource Guide and Journal to patients who come to Children’s Hospital Colorado's Heart Institute. This book, created by Cardiac Kids volunteers, helps parents better navigate their child’s medical treatments. It also offers personal stories from other parents and children with congenital heart conditions. Read an excerpt from the book.
