Kidney Care at Children's Hospital Colorado
The Kidney Center at Children's Hospital Colorado serves as a regional referral area for patients with kidney disease. For more than 30 years, specially trained clinical staff have been providing a wide range of services to patients with kidney disease, from diagnosing and treating mild conditions to providing chronic dialysis and kidney transplantation.
Why Choose Children's Hospital Colorado
Whether your child has a more common kidney disease, or is experiencing kidney failure, chronic dialysis and the possibility of kidney transplantation, specially trained and experienced physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff are here to care for your child. Whatever your child’s needs, we have access to the resources available throughout Children's Hospital Colorado. And we treat not only your child, but your entire family, because we believe that being trained in pediatrics means being trained to care for the entire family. We educate parents and siblings, allow parents to be a part of their child’s treatments, and train parents to provide dialysis at home if their child receives peritoneal dialysis.
Conditions We Treat
Dialysis Programs
Approximately one-half of patients in The Kidney Center are on dialysis, and to support these patients The Kidney Center offers dialysis programs to meet your child's need and your family's lifestyle:
Hemodialysis Dialysis
Hospital-based dialysis (hemodialysis) is offered as an outpatient service to those children and their families who have difficult home situations or medical issues that necessitate receiving hemodialysis in a hospital setting.
Peritoneal Dialysis
Peritoneal dialysis is available in the home setting, as it is a simpler process that families can easily adjust to and can accomplish with safety. Clinicians in The Kidney Center educate children and their parents in order to provide dialysis treatments at home.
Inpatient Dialysis
Clinicians in The Kidney Center also provide inpatient acute dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy.
