Procedural Visit Only Outpatient Order Form for Children's Hospital Colorado


What is a Procedural Visit Only (PVO)? 

A PVO is an opportunity to use a Children’s Hospital Colorado Emergency Department or Urgent Care for certain tests and procedures. These are considered outpatient tests and are billed as such.

A list of acceptable PVOs

  • Blood draw - After hours blood tests:  During business hours, please send all blood draws to one of our outpatient labs, after hours, the ED and Urgent Care locations can perform outpatient lab testing, but can only provide this service for the following three tests: CBC, Electrolytes, and Bilirubin.
  • Urinalysis (UA) and/or urine culture:  Test can be performed via clean catch or catheter.
  • Strep test - Rapid strep will be formed on site, culture will be sent to the lab if rapid is negative. ED/UC staff will contact the provider with the result (please provider your contact information as requested on the order).
  • Nasal Wash or Nasal Swab for viral PCR
  • ECG
  • Pulse Oximeter Check - ED/UC staff will contact the provider with the result (please provider your contact information as requested on the order).
  • Blood Pressure Check - ED/UC staff will contact the provider with the result (please provider your contact information as requested on the order).
  • Suture/Staple Removal
  • Splint Application
  • IM Injection - Antibiotics only. An indication for the antibiotic is required as requested on the order form.  
  • Vaccination - Rabies vaccine only. An indication for the vaccine is required as requested on the order form. Note: Not all network of care sites carry rabies vaccine, please contact the site prior to sending the patient.
