Governor Ritter Praises New Health Records System
On Dec. 16 Children's Hospital Colorado joined Governor Bill Ritter and representatives from the University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Health and Hospital Authority and Kaiser Permanente Colorado for a press conference at the Capitol about the new capability of sharing electronic medical records in the partnering hospital’s emergency departments.
Colorado has become one of the first states in the nation to demonstrate that electronic health information can be securely shared between hospitals and healthcare organizations at a statewide level. The health information exchange, which officially went live on Dec. 1, is coordinated by the non-profit Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO). Children's Hospital Colorado's president and CEO, Jim Shmerling, and emergency medicine physician, Dr. Marion Sills, were active participants in the press conference.
