Children's Patient Prepares for Transplant Games
Boulder Daily Camera
Children’s patient, Melia Cargill, received a liver transplant when she was eight-months-old, after being diagnosed with a metabolic disorder that prevented her liver from processing protein. At age four, Melia will be the youngest member of the Rocky Mountain Team competing in the 2010 National Kidney Foundation Transplant Games at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. The event promotes organ donation and includes activities for transplant recipients, living donors and donor families. Melia's mother, Crystal Cargill, a proponent of organ donation, believes the event will introduce Melia to a network of people with similar experiences and help her understand the significance of her donor family's gift.
