Family Starts Nonprofit to Help Other Families Whose Children Are Ill

"Gracie's Promise," a nonprofit organization aimed at helping families of ill children, was started on behalf of Children's patient, Gracie Claborn, by her great-grandfather, Bud Watson. Two-year-old Gracie has been battling leukemia for over a year. After losing the ability to breathe in an emergency room in Wyoming, the Claborn family's former home, she was flown to Children's Hospital Colorado in Denver where it was discovered that a tumor covered the majority of her lungs. Because of the expenses associated with the treatment, the family started the fund to help others in similar situations. According to Dan Doherty, Gracie's grandfather, the fund has helped families with the expenses of prescriptions, gasoline to drive to Children's Hospital Colorado, food and lodging.
