Nursing Star Spotlights Children's Lactation Program Founder
Nursing Star
Beth Gabrielski, gave birth to a premature baby who spent the first three months of his life at Children's Hospital Colorado -- she was also a NICU nurse at Children's. Gabrielski struggled to establish a milk supply to provide breast milk for her sick child -- an experience which inspired her to help mothers in the same situation. Eighteen years ago the Lactation Program was formally created as a result of Gabrielski's efforts; four years ago the program was made into its own department.
"My lactation program is not a money maker; it uses dollars," Gabrielski said. "The reality of it is this hospital has made a commitment to do the right thing for families and staff and provide support."
