Colorado Senator Uses Children’s as Part of Excellent Efficiency in Health Care Example
U.S. Senator Mark Udall, delivered a speech on the Senate floor in Washington D.C. detailing the ways health insurance reform could reduce wasteful spending and increase efficiency, ultimately making patients the primary focus of health care.
In his speech, Senator Udall used an example from Colorado to illustrate a health care efficiency that could be expanded with health insurance reform, mentioning Children's Hospital Colorado.
Udall spoke about how Physician Health Partners (PHP) in Colorado has had success in improving care for kids suffering from asthma by developing treatment guidelines and promoting collaboration among doctors, Children's Hospital Colorado and the Colorado Allergy and Asthma Centers. He noted that as a result of this collaboration, emergency room visits have declined and families have improved their ability to manage asthma on their own.
