When I Grow Up I Want to be a NICU Nurse

Did or do you ever wonder what it would be like to be a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurse? Caring for newborns who are sick can be a tough job, but someone has to do it, and that someone has to have just the right heart.
“It can be a hard field to get into because once nurses enter it, they stay,” commented Kris McKinnon, RNC, BSN, MS, clinical manager of the NICU at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Special education is not required for a RN to become a NICU nurse, however, certification as a high-risk neonatal nurse is recommended, and most states require neonatal nurse practitioners to be certified as an NNP.
