After Arriving from Haiti, Vanessa's Journey Continues
When the earthquake hit Haiti in early 2010, Vanessa found herself buried in the rubble of her orphanage. Having only a few cuts and scrapes, she was relatively well, considering. Blount's disease had already done its worst and severely transformed this little girl's legs years prior. 9NEWS followed Children's Hospital Colorado patient Vanessa's remarkable journey for three months to help repair her severly bowed legs.
"Hopefully we can get her more level to the ground," Dr. Mark Erickson said on the day of the operation. "We don't usually see this magnitude....It won't be perfect. We won't be able to get it to perfect, but hopefully we can get it to allow her to be much more functional."
