Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension won't Stop this 11-Year-Old

7News

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) is not an easy thing to say, much less diagnose. Simply put, PAH is high blood pressure in the lungs, however Children's Colorado patient, Iain Hess, can easily tell you it's not a "simple" condition to live with.

Iain was diagnosed with PAH when he was five. While it may have inhibited him from doing certain activities, it does not stop him from being an active 11-year-old boy today.

"It's related to scarring and thickening of the blood vessels in the lungs that leads to increase in pressure. Then the right side of the heart fails because it can't maintain the flow to the lungs," said Dr. Dunbar Ivy, pediatric cardiologist.
