Imagine being a CEO of a children's hospital. Easy, right? Not so much.

President and CEO of Children's Hospital Colorado, Jim Shmerling, discusses what it's like to work his dream job and why he cares about kids so much.

"At the age of 18 I had my career decided," he said. "It was very unusual and fortunate for me."

Shmerling, who refers to himself as a "nerd," deals with research, politics, staffing, and research and budgets, among other pressing issues at the heart of children's health care. To do this job efficiently, Shmerling admits that all of these tasks require optimism, love, and joy.
