Prescription Pet Program Brings Dose of Happiness to Patients

CW2

Sometimes a pet friend is the best medicine at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Meet Rosie, a big, cuddly Saint Bernard who has been visiting and bringing smiles to our hospital for two years. And Wesley--the smaller of the two--who is one loveable puppy.

From big to small, Rosie and Wesley are both part of the dog-assisted therapy and visitation Prescription Pet Program (also known as RxPets) at Children's Colorado, especially created to bring a dose of happiness to our patients' days.

"Hospitals can be quite stressful for kids and the Prescription Pet Program is an excellent way to help reduce the stress and the fear around procedures," said Children's Colorado child psychologist Robin Gabriels.
