Patient's Giving Nature Inspires Community

Nicholas Owens is an inspiration
for Children's staff, Nuggets
players and others as he uses
his experience and passion to
raise money for the March of
Dimes.

Nicholas Owens, 21, is making a difference.

Born with spina bifida, a birth defect where the spinal column does not close properly, Nicholas has spent much of his life at Children's Hospital Colorado. With more than 30 surgeries behind him, he continues to inspire others around him, including doctors and nurses at Children's, the March of Dimes and Denver Nuggets players.

Nicholas, a sophomore majoring in Communications at Metro State College, is a volunteer and member of the Family Advisory Council at Children's and has been a ball boy for the Denver Nuggets since 1998.

For nearly seven consecutive years (except 2003), he has been named Top Walker for Colorado WalkAmerica, the largest annual March of Dimes fundraiser.

Nicholas has raised more than $54,000 for the March of Dimes since 2000.
