Para Los Niños Radiothon Supports Children's Hospital Colorado

Listen up! You can help make the holidays brighter for patients of Children's Hospital Colorado. Para Los Ninos is the first-ever Spanish language radiothon to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network and its Colorado beneficiary, Children's Hospital Colorado. Hosted by three Entravision Communications stations, the shows will feature two families whose children, J.J. and Estefania, have been treated at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado.

“Para los Niños radiothon will raise invaluable funds for Children's Hospital Colorado through Children's Miracle Network,” says Jennifer Lackey, Director of Children’s Miracle Network.

“Funds raised through Children's Miracle Network support the areas of greatest need at Children's Hospital Colorado and ensure that children like J.J. and Estefania receive the best care possible.”

The care Estefania and J.J. have received at Children’s has made an enormous impact in their young lives and the lives of their families.

Estefania and J.J.

The middle child of three, Estefania is now six and a half. She was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2005, when she was almost 3 years old. Her treatment through Children’s finished in June 2007, and on a routine check-up one year later, doctors discovered she had relapsed. Now back in intensive treatment, she is doing well overall – she’s back in school and able to play with her brothers.

Juan Jose (“J.J.”) was 5 when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. After his initial treatment, his disease came back and doctors determined he needed a bone marrow transplant.

J.J.’s mom had just found out she was pregnant again when they got the news, and when no family members were a match, she asked doctors to delay his transplant until the new baby could be tested for a match. Though J.J.’s doctors initially said no in the interest of immediate treatment, J.J. had setbacks that delayed the bone marrow transplant anyway. By the time he was ready for his transplant, the new baby was born and was a perfect match, so the cord was used for J.J.’s transplant. J.J. is now one year out from his transplant and is doing great.

Hear more about Estefania and J.J. on three Entravision radio networks: La Tricolor (KXPK 96.5 FM), Super Estrella (KJMN 92.1 FM) and José (KMXA 1090 AM). The radiothon runs from Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 a.m., through Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
