Children’s Patient Celebrates Recovery From Cancer Surgery

Windsor Beacon

Skyview Elementary student, Hunter Shultz, was able to celebrate with all of his classmates after his successful recovery from cancer and radiation. The Windsor resident was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer last June, however, due to his early detection doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado were able to completely remove his thyroid during an 11-hour surgery preventing the spread of cancerous cells.

Later, Hunter went through a five-day radiation treatment in Windsor at his families home. Since Hunter’s treatment, the rule at Children's Hospital Colorado regarding post-treatment for patients with thyroid cancer receiving radiation treatment has changed.

After months of blood tests, body scans and an 11-hour surgery and radiation treatment, Hunter is back to his old self playing baseball and riding his bike with friends. He has had several parties celebrating his recovery with the local second and third grade students in the area.
