A multidisciplinary, long-term approach to supporting healthy hearts
Children's Heart Institute offers a multidisciplinary approach to treating kids with cardiac (heart) disease. This means that experts in many areas of healthcare work together to help solve problems related to your child's heart. Our multidisciplinary team includes pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists, pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, cardiac-trained nurses and nurse practitioners, registered dieticians and medical social workers, just to name a few. These specialized professionals, who are among the best-of-the-best in their individual fields, help to provide integrated care throughout your child's diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
A collaboration of more than 15 departments, The Heart Institute provides a comprehensive continuum of care. Our multidisciplinary team serves families and their unborn fetus, newborns, infants, children, adolescents and young adults. We see patients with all forms of congenital (present at or before birth) and acquired heart disease, while providing family-centered care in support of parents and families. And our dedication to children doesn't stop when they graduate from high school, become old enough to vote, or say goodbye to their teenage years. By providing care from birth all the way into adulthood, Children's Hospital Colorado Heart Institute is committed to supporting healthy hearts for a lifetime. Learn more about our Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program.
Because heart disease is a life-long issue, our Heart Institute supports all aspects of treatment — from intensive care when kids are very ill, to routine follow-up appointments. All of our cardiac patients receive developmental follow-up every six months from birth until three years of age, and then annually thereafter. As kids grow and their condition stabilizes over time, many patients only require basic outpatient treatment at our cardiology clinic. And with cardiology clinics held on our main campus and at multiple Network of Care locations, Children's provides convenient access to heart care not just within the Denver-metro area, but throughout Colorado and beyond.
