Children's President and CEO Thanks Employees for Generosity During Radiothon Challenge
Every year, our community invests in the lives of children and families by giving through Alice's 36 Hours for Kids radiothon, which raises money for Children's Hospital Colorado. The radiothon also provides employees who work at Children's with a great opportunity to give back during our annual Employee Giving program.
During this year's three-day radiothon (February 17, 18 and 19, 2010), Dr. Jim Shmerling, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Children's, gave employees the opportunity to double their radiothon contribution during his "CEO Challenge." Through the CEO Challenge, Dr. Shmerling vowed to double employee contributions up to a $10,000 made between 10 - 11 a.m. on February 18. Watch a video about Employee Giving during 36 Hours for Kids.
In a recent hospital-wide e-mail, Dr. Shmerling thanked employees for their phenomenal support and dedication to their workplace, Children's Hospital Colorado.
Message from Jim Shmerling to all hospital employees:
"As employees of Children's Hospital Colorado, we naturally devote our lives to a cause bigger than ourselves. Day after day, we work to improve the lives of children. We crunch numbers for children, examine spreadsheets and change bed sheets for children, serve food for children, take blood pressure and temperature for children, work on-call for children, stay late and arrive early for children. Generosity is inherently a part of our jobs and who we are.
Given that, I am moved beyond words by the charity you displayed during this year's Radiothon. During Alice's 36 Hours for Kids, 656 employees donated a total of $121,985. I am especially honored by your action during my 'CEO Challenge.' You collectively outmatched me by donating more than $51,000 in a mere hour. That is phenomenal.
Thank you. Whether you donated $1 or $1,000, you impacted a child's life. No amount is too small, especially in an uncertain economy. Your donations benefit The Children's Fund that directly supports children and their families, funding our areas of greatest need so that we can continue to welcome all children to the hospital, no matter their economic background.
Alice's 36 Hours for Kids could not have been a success without The Foundation at Children's, a team that works tirelessly to raise funds for children's health. If you missed the opportunity to give during the radiothon, you can donate at any time on The Foundation website.
As employees of Children's, you have no moral obligation to give, and yet you do anyway. You give continuously, there is no end to your giving, and I'm humbled to work among you."
