Children's Hospital Colorado Continues to Rank among Nation's Best Children's Hospitals in U.S. News & World Report

Children's Hospital Colorado once again ranked among the nation's best pediatric hospitals in U.S. News & World Report's 2010 edition of Best Children's Hospitals. The hospital ranked in nine specialty areas surveyed; among those, five specialties ranked in the top ten and three ranked in the top five. Specialties ranked include cancer (11), diabetes & endocrine disorders (4), gastroenterology (5), heart and heart surgeries (19), kidney (28), neonatology (9), neurology and neurosurgery (20), orthopedics (9), and pulmonology (5).
Children's Hospital Colorado was the only hospital in Colorado to obtain ranking in more than one pediatric specialty.

Children's Hospital Colorado has been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report every year since the inception of its rankings edition in 1993. The 2010-11 rankings are published online at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals and will be featured in the August print issue of U.S. News & World Report, available to subscribers as soon as July 15 and on newsstands starting July 27.

"This is fantastic news, not just for us, but for the children of Colorado," said Jim Shmerling, DHA, FACHE, president and chief executive officer, Children's Hospital Colorado. "For them, it means access to the nation's best physicians and nurses without the burden of cross-country travel. It means better outcomes and brighter futures in their own backyards."

In this year's Best Children's Hospitals, hospitals are ranked in cancer, diabetes and endocrine disorders, gastroenterology, heart and heart surgery, kidney disorders, neonatology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

The methodology used for this year's rankings combined reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors. The hospitals were judged based on opinions from pediatric specialists about the hospitals they would recommend for the sickest children and data gathered in a 75-page survey covering important medical information ranging from surgical death rates to whether pediatric anesthesiologists and other sub specialists are on the staff. A detailed description of the methodology can be found at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals.
