One Call Turns 20!
One Call is celebrating 20 years of operation, serving as the community healthcare provider's point of entry to Children's Hospital Colorado and its Network of Care.
One Call was started in 1990 based on an idea from Jim Todd, MD and Steve Poole, MD. The goal was to create a single entry point for all community physician requests. Initially, One Call was a function of the admissions department and duties were in addition to other admissions job functions. Gradually the scope and services of One Call grew to include anything needed by a referring physician. The buzz was "just call 3999 - One Call."
Today, One Call coordinates specialist consultations and is a major source of information for external community physicians around the world as well as internal Children's Hospital medical staff. The One Call staff responds to more than 8,000 calls per month. These calls are always answered promptly by call center staff, 24/7. One Call representatives also provide support to the After-Hours Telephone Triage Program and ParentSmart Community Healthline.
Recently the One Call staff became an integral part of the new Discharge Phone Call program that supports an important hospital initiative. The staff uses their excellent customer service skills to work with families to ensure a smooth transition from the hospital to their home. One Call is also supporting a new Telehealth program as well as providing support for the new Quality and Patient Safety Data question line.
You can always reach One Call at (800) 525-4871 or (720) 777-3999.
