Current Research at Children's Hospital Colorado

Our current research efforts range from improving treatments for diseases like leukemia, cystic fibrosis and diabetes, to developing a new artificial heart pump for kids born with only one ventricle. Our researchers are also creating new therapies using umbilical cord stem cells to help regenerate damaged or defective cells, potentially unlocking treatments for numerous childhood diseases. These are just a few examples of the hundreds of ongoing research studies being conducted at our facility.

Hundreds of research studies are being
conducted at our facility every single
day. It's all part of our goal to give
every child the best chance a healthy
life.

Looking forward: The next 10 years of research

Our child health research efforts over the next decade will focus on the following six areas:

  • Biology and treatment of childhood cancer
  • Cardiopulmonary and vascular biology
  • Developmental origins of health and disease
  • Genomics
  • Immunology, autoimmunity, inflammation and infection
  • Neurobiology
  • Community health and disease prevention

Reflecting our powerful commitment to research, Children's Hospital Colorado also seeks to increase research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) over the next five years. This funding will serve as one measure of progress toward our ultimate goal: to give every child the best chance to live a healthy life.
