Pediatric Research at Children's Hospital Colorado
Children's Hospital Colorado is
part of one of the largest
healthcare research complexes
in the world.
Imagine having your sick or injured child in the hands of a doctor who treats children -- only children -- every day, and is also a leader in the research of causes and treatments of childhood diseases and injuries. Or hearing from your child’s surgeon about the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery and pediatric pain management. Even discussing rehabilitation for a sports injury with a top specialist in pediatric rehabilitation research. Sound reassuring? Then you’ve come to the right place.
Finding cures faster with child health research
We at Children's Hospital Colorado believe that every child deserves to have a happy, healthy future. As a key component of our mission, child health research is at the heart of our ability to deliver the very best care for kids.
In 2011, together with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, we ranked second among pediatric hospitals in the nation in dollars received from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). By securing more than $37 million from the NIH, this type of nationally recognized support helps our physician scientists move closer to breakthroughs that will improve children’s lives around the world.
Our research process: from the hospital to the lab
Child health research is at the core of our commitment to deliver the best clinical care for kids. With each patient we see, our physicians and caregivers seek to improve outcomes and deliver world-class care.
During the research process, our physician-scientists study the genetic, biologic and cellular mechanisms of disease, injury and repair. The discoveries from these studies are then translated into improved diagnostics and treatments, providing cutting-edge therapies to our patients.
Armed with new answers to the problems our patients face, Children's Hospital Colorado is constantly adapting our bedside protocols to deliver the best care -- based on our own research and that of the medical and scientific community.
