Applicants for the August 2020 New Graduate Nurse Residency Program Cohort:

We are continuing to review applications for the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Currently, we are planning for an August 2020 Cohort for our hospitals at Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora and in Colorado Springs. However, due to operational impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are evaluating our plans to hire new graduate nurses, and our plans may change. If there are any changes to our ability to hire, we will update this website accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Nurse Residency Program

At Children’s Colorado, our Nurse Residency Program provides innovative training for new nurses. Below are some of the questions applicants frequently ask about our program.

How many hours per week do nurse residents work?

This is a full-time position that requires 72 to 80 hours per two-week pay period for the full 52 weeks, including weekends. The number of hours per week change to accommodate both didactic and clinical time.

Will I be working nights, weekends and holidays?

Nurse residents are full-time professional nurse employees. Thus, the schedule will include some nights, weekends and holidays. Unit nurse managers and nurse educators collaborate to develop a schedule that best meets the resident's learning needs during the residency program. Generally, the nurse resident's schedule will be the same as the staff nurse preceptors schedule to whom the resident is assigned.

Do I get vacation time during my residency?

Residents receive the same vacation, paid holidays and sick leave allowance as all other nurses.

What is a nurse resident hourly pay rate?

The Human Resources Department has the exact figures and will discuss pay and benefits with you upon hire.

What types of scrubs are allowed?

You may wear any kid-friendly, professional-looking scrub with closed-toe shoes.

Can I get a tour of the Children's Colorado locations?

Our Talent Acquisition Team offers tours of our locations at Anschutz and Colorado Springs campuses based on availability each month. This must be confirmed in advance. To set up a tour, please email with the date and time that you would like to schedule. Title the email "New Grad Hospital Tour." Please be advised that walk-ins are not preferred or guaranteed a tour.
