9News, CBS4, The Denver Post | July 28, 2014

Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Denver Zoo unveiled their new mascot Sunday, Elbert the Bear.  The mascot highlights the new partnership between the zoo and Children’s Colorado.

Children's Hospital Colorado's new mascot, Elbert the Bear, hugs a girl at the Denver Zoo.
In addition to his home at the zoo, Elbert will travel to Children’s Colorado at least once a month to visit patients.

In addition to his home at the zoo, Elbert will travel to Children’s Colorado at least once a month to visit young patients and bring smiles to their faces. The new mascot will help promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle for kids.

“Those days get really long for children who can’t get out of bed, and some children are there for months,” said Jena Hausmann, chief operating officer at Children’s Colorado, in an interview with CBS4.

Elbert was born in the Rocky Mountains and is named after Mount Elbert, the highest peak in Colorado. We're very excited to welcome him to our family!
