U.S. News & World Report has ranked Children's Hospital Colorado No. 6 on their 2014-2015 Best Children's Hospital Honor Roll.
The “Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings highlight U.S. News’ top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
Children’s Hospital Colorado (Children’s Colorado) ranked in nine of ten specialties surveyed and six of the hospital’s specialties ranked among the top 10:
Of the 183 pediatric hospitals invited to participate in the survey this year, only 10 hospitals made the Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes the small number of hospitals that excel in at least three specialties.
“Our colleagues across the nation continue to raise the bar, and I’m proud to count us among that elite group,” said Children’s Colorado CEO Jim Shmerling, DHA, FACHE. “Congratulations and thank you to our dedicated medical providers and staff, as well as to our patients, families and community who support us.”
Children’s Colorado has been recognized as a top hospital by U.S. News for the past two decades.
“Congratulations to all of the Honor Roll hospitals,” said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “The Best Children’s Hospital Honor Roll highlights pediatric centers that show exceptional dedication and expertise across a wide range of serious medical specialties.”
Five-sixths of each hospital’s score relied on patient outcomes and the care-related resources each hospital makes available. To gather clinical data, U.S. News sent a clinical questionnaire to 183 pediatric hospitals. The remaining one-sixth of the score derived from a survey of 450 pediatric specialists and subspecialists in each specialty over three years. The 4,500 physicians were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside location and expense.
Survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, procedure volume and much more can be viewed online and will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, which will be available in August.
