Children's Hospital Colorado Celebrates One Year at South Campus
Children's Hospital Colorado | January 20, 2015
Children’s Hospital Colorado’s South Campus, located in Highlands Ranch, Colo., celebrated its one-year anniversary on Friday, Dec. 19. The 180,000 square-foot facility opened in 2013 and provides the only pediatric urgent care in South Metro Denver staffed by board certified pediatric emergency medicine doctors and nurses.
“We were very excited when the South Campus opened so close to home, and the location continues to provide a great benefit to my family,” said René Garvey, a mother of five whose daughter receives regular treatment at the location. “We’ve greatly reduced our travel time to-and-from the Aurora campus, our youngest children love the onsite child care and, most importantly, we appreciate the staff who are experts at treating kids.”
More than 41,550 outpatient specialty visits in the first year
During this same time period, pediatric experts at the South Campus performed more than 1,516 surgeries. In addition, more than 29,915 outpatient lab tests have been run at the facility, which offers Saturday office hours to accommodate busy family and caregiver schedules.
“Surgeries, invasive procedures and complex radiology tests can be a big cause of stress for children,” said Dr. Tom Majcher, director of anesthesia at Children’s Colorado’s South Campus and resident of South Denver. “Being able to provide these services closer to home – and from a doctor or nurse who may live in your neighborhood – means less travel time and a more familiar environment for the patient and their family, which can help with healing and reduce stress for the whole family.”
Additional features of the one-year-old South Campus include:
MRI services with Ambient Experience by Philips (first in Colorado); imaging suite is transformed with projected images, colored lighting and music to reduce anxiety and help children relax
24/7 Urgent Care with 22 exam rooms
3 operating rooms with private recovery rooms
12 inpatient rooms with sleep accommodations for parents/guardians
3 overnight sleep study rooms
Outpatient lab services; this includes Saturday mornings
A comprehensive sports medicine program
Creative Play Center with outdoor play area for siblings
Multiple child life playrooms
Ronald McDonald Family Room
Cafeteria/coffee shop and gift shop
Sensory Garden
