From Feb. 11-12, the atrium of Children’s Hospital Colorado was transformed into a hub of miracle making for the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals radiothon event. Celebrating its 15th year, the Alice 105.9 Cares for Kids radiothon delighted with sights, sounds and stories of the medical journeys, challenges and triumphs shared by Children’s Colorado patient families.
Alice 105.9 Cares for Kids radiothon raised $1.3 million for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals benefiting Children’s Hospital Colorado. The two-day radiothon, broadcast live on KALC Alice 105.9 radio, started at 6:00 a.m. on Feb. 11 and wrapped up at 6 p.m. Feb. 12. Staff of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Alice 105.9 talent were joined by patients and families to present a big check to Children’s Colorado. This year’s fundraiser brings the fifteen year total to more than $20.7 million, funds that help to keep Children’s Colorado one of the top children’s hospital in the nation.
The radiothon listening audience heard stories of resilience from patients like Carson. Born at 25 weeks gestation and weighing just 1 pound 12 ounces, Carson developed a brain bleed in his first week of life. He was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a disorder affecting movement, muscle tone and posture.
During the radiothon, Alice 105.9 broke away from regular programming to interview past and present patients of the hospital, play pre-recorded audio montages of inspirational stories and solicit their listeners to give money. Donations big and small were collected and thousands of listeners became “Miracle Makers,” choosing to give a $15 a month recurring gift to the hospital.
It's not too late to support Children's Hospital Colorado, you can still give online.
