Phased appointments, enhanced safety precautions and location updates
Kids will always need great pediatric care, and Children’s Hospital Colorado is starting to reactivate services that were suspended temporarily due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Children’s Hospital Colorado was the first hospital system in Colorado to offer COVID-19 testing, and we continue to bring that forward-thinking expertise to everything we do,” said Jena Hausmann, President and CEO. “Kids needed Children’s Hospital Colorado before the pandemic, and they need us now. We are here to deliver safe, thoughtful, high-quality care for kids who need it, and we’re ready to resume services our patients and families wish to receive.”
Keeping you safe
We are exercising all precautions to keep patients, families and our team safe. These measures include increased screening measures for all team members and visitors, testing many patients and caregivers as indicated, increased availability of telehealth appointments, and limiting the number of people at locations.
“We want patients and families to know that our locations are safe and so are doctors’ offices,” said Daniel Hyman, MD, Chief Medical and Patient Safety Officer at Children’s Colorado. “We urge families to not put off important medical visits, especially their well-child care appointments, and most importantly, vaccines. In this pandemic, we are seeing the terrible impacts of serious contagious disease. The vaccines we routinely give, like measles, are essential in protecting our children from many other serious infections.”
Phased opening for pediatric services
In accordance with Colorado Governor Jared Polis’ Safer-at-Home order and directives from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), Children’s Colorado is reopening select pediatric services, procedures, in-person appointments and locations.
Services now available at certain locations
- Surgery and procedures (as of April 28)
- Sleep and diagnostics* (as of May 4)
- Outpatient lab services* (as of May 4)
- Outpatient radiology* (as of May 4)
- Clinic visits* (as of May 11)
- Therapy care* (as of June 22)
*Note that some locations with these services remain temporarily closed. Please confirm the location of your appointment with your care team.
Schedulers and clinical teams continue to communicate changes to affected patients, families and referring providers. Existing Children's Colorado patients are encouraged to communicate with their care teams via MyChart or telephone for any questions or concerns. Additional details regarding the reopening of other specialty clinic, therapy care and urgent care locations and pediatric services will be announced soon.

Maternal and fetal care services
The Colorado Fetal Care Center in Aurora remains open for labor and deliveries and fetal surgeries.
We’re able to conduct telehealth visits, when appropriate, in every clinic and specialty we offer. For families in Pueblo, this includes virtual appointments for speech, language, feeding and learning therapies with our Pueblo therapy care team.
Telehealth has been part of the outreach offerings at Children’s Colorado since 2012, but dramatically increased in March from about 100 virtual visits per week to now thousands per week. Children's Colorado temporary closures
Several Children’s Colorado locations remain closed until further notice. Our providers and schedulers are directing patients and families to the most appropriate open location for their needs.

Children’s Colorado’s leaders continue to follow local, state and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19. In addition to continuing to assess the epidemiology of the pandemic in Colorado, we remain prepared to adjust operations quickly to protect the health and safety of patients, families, team members and our community.

- If you need general medical advice for your child and you do not have a primary care provider, call our free ParentSmart Healthline at 720-777-0123 to speak to an experienced pediatric nurse, 24/7.
- If you need to seek urgent medical attention for possible COVID-19, call ahead. Do not go unannounced to a doctor's office, emergency department or urgent care facility. When you call the doctor's office, they will give you information on how to proceed in order to protect other patients and visitors.
