The Pediatric Transplant Program at Children's Hospital Colorado is at the forefront of research, innovation and outcomes for liver, kidney and heart transplants. Our program and multidisciplinary team have been changing lives for decades. We have the only pediatric transplant program in the region with this magnitude of experience and expertise — and research drives our success.
Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), single organ transplants performed between January 1, 2022, and June 30, 2024. SRTR data released July 2025.
What our transplant research means for kids
Our dedication to advancing research in pediatric transplantation means we achieve some of the best outcomes for kids nationwide.
Thanks to our living donor program, which gives children more options for receiving a liver or kidney, our waitlist times are some of the shortest in the country. We also encourage patients to multi-list at several transplant centers, increasing the chances they’ll get the organ they need more quickly. In 2024, we had a record-setting year for liver transplant volumes, showing that our innovative approach only continues to improve with time.
In addition to leading the way with our living donor program, we also support research on specific diagnoses that eventually require a transplant. By researching conditions and techniques such as intra-operative continuous renal replacement therapy, live viral vaccine safety, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, cystic fibrosis liver disease and more, we are helping kids heal before they need a transplant at all.
"By translating basic and translational research studies to our patients, we hope to improve outcomes in diseases without effective medical therapies like biliary atresia."
