Loperamide (Imodium AD)

You can take loperamide to help reduce diarrhea.

Dose:

  • Imodium: Take 2 capsules (4 mg) as a first dose. You may take an additional 1 capsule (2 mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 8 capsules (16 mg) per day.
  • Imodium A-D liquid: Take 6 teaspoons or 30 ml (4 mg) as a first dose. You may take an additional 3 teaspoons or 15 ml (2 mg) after each loose stool. Do not take more than 12 teaspoons (60 ml; 16 mg) per day.

Extra Notes and Warnings:

  • This is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug. You can buy it at the drugstore.
  • Do not use if you have a fever over 100° F (37.8° C).
  • Do not use if there is blood or mucus in your stools.
  • Do not use for more than 2 days.
