If your child has asthma, the pediatric asthma experts at Children’s Hospital Colorado may recommend using a Twisthaler® to control the symptoms.

Does my child need a Twisthaler?

Children with asthma need ongoing treatment to control their symptoms and prevent other medical problems from developing. Effectively managing asthma helps your child avoid visiting the emergency department or urgent care, stay in school and just enjoy being a kid.

Every case of asthma is unique. Our pediatric asthma experts meet with you to assess your child’s unique triggers and symptoms, make a diagnosis and discuss treatments. A Twisthaler is one of several treatment options that we may suggest for your child.

How does a Twisthaler work?

A Twisthaler is a small hand-held device that sends a dry powder steroid medication (mometasone) into your child’s lungs. This medication relieves inflammation (swelling) in your child’s airways to reduce asthma symptoms like wheezing and coughing.

The medicine in the Twisthaler doesn’t work quickly, so your child should not use it during sudden asthma attacks or flare-ups. If your child is having an asthma attack, use a quick-relief inhaler, like albuterol.

How to use a Twisthaler

It’s important for you and your child to learn how to use the Twisthaler correctly. The device is easy to use, but it takes a bit of practice.

The asthma specialists at Children’s Colorado will teach you and your child how to use it.

The Colorado teens who made our state rank first in underage vaping are now young adults, and show no signs of slowing down vape use. For years, there's been a big question around how addictive devices like vapes are for teens, and now the latest state data is reflecting that. “We're seeing increases in those young adults," said Heather De Keyser, MD. "They weren't able to stop."
