The course is designed for pediatric surgeons, urologists, gynecologists and gastroenterologists, as well as pediatric nurses managing patients with colorectal issues. During the course, you will view three carefully selected operative demonstrations, including surgical/technical maneuvers to be performed during the repair of anorectal malformations.

This course is designed for advanced practice providers, nurses, pediatric surgeons, urologists, gynecologists and gastroenterologists managing patients with colorectal diagnoses. The course will provide an overview of congenital colorectal conditions and focus on the long-term management of these patients. Subspecialty lectures will include acute pain management, wound/ostomy care, urology and a psychologist who specializes in working with the congenital colorectal population.

Describe the considerations for caring for patients with congenital colorectal conditions in the hospital pre- and post-surgery
Describe the mental health and social needs when treating patients with congenital colorectal conditions
Describe the diagnosis of fecal incontinence and constipation and the differences in their management
Explain the concept of a daily bowel management program with laxatives or enemas
Identify key management strategies for urologic conditions associated with congenital colorectal conditions
Review wound/ostomy care techniques
