Pediatric Dermatology Services

At Children’s Hospital Colorado, your child has access to complete medical and surgical dermatological services provided by experienced doctors. We provide routine care through our dermatology clinics with locations across the Front Range. We also work with specialists in different departments at Children’s Colorado to provide complete care for individuals with complex dermatologic and medical needs.

Examinations, biopsies and blood testing

Our specialists provide thorough reviews of skin problems using a variety of examinations and testing. These tests can include visual skin examinations, blood testing or biopsies in which we will remove a very small portion of skin for testing.

In cases where your child’s dermatologist recommends a skin biopsy, skin scrape or blood tests, they can be performed in the clinic that same day. Following the examination and possible skin or blood testing, your child’s dermatologist will make recommendations for treatment based on their unique condition and needs.

Surgical procedures for dermatology

If a surgical procedure is necessary, it will occur at a future appointment in most cases. Your child’s dermatologist will work with your child and family to discuss whether a local anesthetic or general anesthetic is the best option. Children who undergo surgeries and procedures in clinic have the option of watching or listening to videos or music to help make them feel as comfortable as possible.

Surgeries and procedures for dermatology

The surgeries and procedures we offer include:

• Botox for hyperhidrosis (excessive perspiration)
• Excision (surgical removal) of skin growths
• Pulsed dye laser therapy of vascular birthmarks
• Iontophoresis for hyperhidrosis (excessive perspiration)
• Narrow band ultraviolet B phototherapy (or simply phototherapy) for skin disorders
