Prior to your first appointment, we will contact you to review your child’s and family’s needs. When you come to the Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Colorado, our multidisciplinary team will meet with your family and child. A developmental pediatrician or pediatric nurse practitioner along with other providers which may include a physical therapist, speech therapist, feeding therapist, occupational therapist, education specialist and social worker that will all work together to assess your child. Other specialists on our team include a psychologist, a psychiatrist and an augmentative and alternative communication specialist.
At the conclusion of the visit, your family will receive appropriate and up-to-date information, as well as resources and recommendations to optimize your child’s health and development. We will also share this information with your child’s primary care doctor.
Lastly, we will arrange periodic follow-up appointments based on your child’s needs, parental concerns and primary care physician recommendations. To help make your visit to Children’s Colorado as convenient as possible, the hospital complex schedulers can try to schedule combination appointments with other sub-specialists on the same day or over a period of a few days.
Through the Sie Center, your child can receive a full spectrum of care from other experts right within our hospital. Appropriate referrals can be recommended as well as testing.
