Ophthalmology Resources for Families

Whether it’s a congenital eye condition that your child was born with or an eye condition you get later as an adult, our Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology knows that information is one of the best tools we have to improve the quality of life for our patients. We also know that these tools are most effective when the entire family can use them.

In addition to providing top ophthalmological diagnoses and treatment, education and support are important ways to help your family live their healthiest, happiest life. These resources provide information for many things, from childhood blindness to adult strabismus, as well as local support you can find for your child and family.

Anchor Center

The Anchor Center is a non-profit organization in Colorado providing services to blind children during their most formative years of development  including early intervention, special education, developmental assessment, therapy, supportive family engagement and coaching.

American Academy of Ophthalmology

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is the world’s largest association of eye physicians and surgeons. Their mission is to protect sight and serve as an advocate for patients and the public through  leading ophthalmic education, supporting research and advancing the profession of ophthalmology.

American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus

The American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) strives to advance the quality of children's eye care, support the training of pediatric ophthalmologists, support research activities in pediatric ophthalmology and advance the care of adults with strabismus.

Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind

The Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind is located in Colorado Springs. They accept new students from infancy up to 21 years old and focus on early intervention, education, post-secondary education/training and career readiness.

The Perkins School for the Blind provides online educational resources and advocacy tools for families of children with cortical visual impairment (CVI).
