Laboratory Accreditation

At Children's Hospital Colorado, our laboratory facilities at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

Accreditation for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Children's Colorado

In maintaining our accreditation status and holding various certificates, we not only uphold these institutions' values and remain compliant with industry rules, regulations and requirements, but also:

  • Achieve the highest standard of laboratory quality
  • Support Children's Colorado's initiative to eliminate preventable harm by managing and reducing the risk of inaccurate or unreliable test results
  • Deliver accurate results, supporting physicians in their treatment, diagnoses and obtaining better patient outcomes
  • Continually improve our operations, so we stay at the forefront of and maintain excellence in pathology and laboratory medicine

We're proud to hold a CAP Certificate (.pdf) and CLIA Certification (.pdf).

To reflect our focus on donor and patient safety, our laboratories all hold CAP accreditation. As a CAP-accredited facility, we uphold the highest standards of care, medical performance, scientific investigation, education and clinical application that define CAP, all while providing the specialized pediatric services and patient experience that defines Children's Colorado.

State-specific laboratory certificates and licenses

With unparalleled capabilities, we provide the pediatric-specific insights, expertise, facilities and testing capabilities that are crucial to providers across the country. In fact, we receive requisitions for prenatal, pediatric and specialized adult laboratory medicine from providers around the world.

Our laboratories are licensed to accept samples from 48 states. We also commonly accept samples from Columbia, Peru, Belgium, and Canada, among other countries.

If you're located in Maryland or Pennsylvania and are interested in sending a sample to our lab, you can view our laboratory certificates:

Please note, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services is not licensed in the state of New York. To receive testing through our laboratory, physicians must submit a valid waiver form from the New York State Department of Health with every sample and requisition.
