Our multidisciplinary approach at the Pancreatic Surgery Program

Children with pancreatic disorders require more than one specialist to provide comprehensive medical care. That’s why the Pancreatic Surgery Program at Children’s Colorado has a multidisciplinary team of pediatric pancreatic surgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, dietitians, pain specialists and psychologists that provides care for these children.

In this video, Medical Director of the Pediatric Pancreas Center, Jacob Mark, MD, and Clinical Director of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Marco Del Chiaro, MD, discuss their unique partnership. Dr. Mark reviews the services the Pancreatic Surgery Program provides such as comprehensive medical care and cutting-edge endoscopic therapies like ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. He also discusses their ongoing research on pancreatic conditions, including recurrent and chronic pancreatitis. Dr. Del Chiaro outlines the keys to success for pediatric pancreatic surgery outcomes, which include partnering with an adult pancreatic surgery program.

Referring patients to our Surgical Oncology Program

Nicholas Cost, MD, talks about the advantages of referring pediatric patients with cancer to our Surgical Oncology Program. Dr. Cost, one of few pediatric urologists who is also fellowship-trained in urologic oncology, is joined by orthopedic oncologist Nathan Donaldson, DO, and surgical oncologist Jonathan Roach, MD. Dr. Roach has completed a solid organ transplant fellowship, giving him additional training in hepatobiliary surgery. This exceptional multidisciplinary team of providers also discusses the advantages of being able to deliver complete surgical oncology care all under one roof.
