The Pediatric Transplant Program cares for children who need a liver transplant or kidney transplant. Many factors go into choosing a transplant program, including waitlist times, outcomes and medical expertise. The transplant team at Children’s Hospital Colorado has decades of experience providing liver and kidney transplants exclusively for children and can provide your family with a second opinion if you’re considering a transplant.

The liver transplant and the kidney transplant teams have taken the transplant journey with many families, and in the process have produced some of the best outcomes for pediatric transplantation in the country. If your child requires a liver or kidney transplant, you can consult our transplant experts, no matter what stage of the journey you are in.

It’s simple to start the second opinion process. In the initial phone call, we’ll gather information about your child and their health history. After we get all the information, our team will decide which specialists will be best for your child to see for an in-person second opinion appointment.

Why request a second opinion from our Pediatric Transplant Program

We know that transplantation is not simply a procedure, but a journey in which your child and your family will need support every step of the way. Kidney or liver transplant evaluation can be a long process and waiting for an organ can seem like the longest part. We are fortunate to be in Colorado, which has some of the shortest deceased donor waitlist times of any region in the country.

Colorado also has one of the highest volumes of non-directed live donors – people who sign up to be a donor without knowing who their donated liver or kidney might go to. We also encourage candidates to multi-list, so they can be on the wait list here in Colorado, as well as another transplant program.

In addition to shorter waitlist times, at Children’s Colorado you’ll find a dedicated transplant team that supports your child and family throughout the entire process. As with many conditions that require transplantation, other systems in the body can be affected as well. Our transplant team collaborates with specialists across our hospital to provide the very best care for your child.
