Designation for Colorado Fetal Care Center a Win for Expectant Moms

For moms-to-be and expectant parents navigating a high-risk pregnancy, there’s great comfort knowing that the obstetric care they are receiving, and the medical facility and staff providing it, are world-class. The recent announcement that the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado earned the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology's (SOAP) Center of Excellence (COE) designation should provide them with a little extra peace of mind.

With the COE designation from SOAP, the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado has achieved one of the loftiest accreditations for obstetric anesthesiology care. The COE recognizes a facility’s safe and exceptional obstetric anesthesia care, based on a broad range of exacting criteria, from the experience and qualifications of doctors and other medical staff to the use of evidenced based protocols and a collaborative team-based approach to the overall quality and safety of care and aftercare. This designation recognizes the Center’s excellence in obstetric anesthesiology care, but also helps set a benchmark level of expected care to help improve standards nationally.

Demonstrating a focus on the best possible care

“Earning the prestigious SOAP designation is something that we are extremely proud of, because it demonstrates to our patients just how focused we are on providing them with the best possible obstetric anesthesiology care for pregnant mothers and babies from the moment they arrive here at Children’s Hospital Colorado,” said Cristina Wood, MD, MS, Medical Director, Obstetric Anesthesiology, for the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Via programs such as the COE designation, SOAP, an organization of doctors and scientists who share an interest in the care of the pregnant patient, developing fetus and the newborn, seeks to improve the pregnancy-related outcomes of women and neonates through the support of obstetric anesthesiology research, the provision of education to its members, other providers and pregnant women, and the promotion of excellence in clinical obstetric anesthetic care.

Children's Colorado team committed to meeting and exceeding the highest standards in obstetric anesthesiology

“The entire staff at the Colorado Fetal Care Center deserves a huge amount of credit,” Wood said, “for their dedication and hard work in elevating our obstetric anesthesiology practices, our evidenced based protocols, our research and our overall level of care to meet the high standards set by SOAP. These are standards to which we are all committed to meeting — and exceeding.”
