What are pediatric liver tumors?

There are a variety of liver tumors that can occur in both children and adults for different reasons. The most common pediatric liver tumors we treat are hepatoblastoma, hepatocellular carcinoma and hemangiomas.

What causes liver tumors in children?

Liver tumors happen when cells grow out of control within the liver. Some children have underlying genetic conditions that increase their risk of a liver tumor, but most don’t. Genetic conditions that can increase the likelihood of liver tumors include:

Who gets liver tumors?

A liver tumor can affect anyone, from babies to adults. Males are more likely to develop a liver tumor than females. Pediatric liver problems can be caused by liver masses that are both malignant liver tumors (cancerous) and benign (noncancerous) or nonmalignant tumors.
