We believe that every child should have access to our high-quality care. That’s why we offer telehealth, or virtual visits, to families who might live far away or prefer to receive care from the comfort and privacy of home. Even some examinations and tests can be done virtually at your local clinic or hospital, which saves time and money for families who live far away.
Our HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video technology protects your privacy and is easy to use. Plus, we offer telehealth across every one of our specialties and clinics – meaning no matter what illness or injury your child has, telehealth might be an option for your child’s care.
How virtual healthcare works

Telehealth, sometimes called telemedicine or a virtual doctor visit, is a video-based appointment with a member of your child’s care team using medical-grade, HIPAA-compliant tools. Telehealth provides best-practice medical care for patient visits or education at a time and place most convenient for the family.
Virtual appointments can take place in your home or with help from a local provider, such as your local pediatrician, partner health clinic or hospital. Medical staff who work for the partner clinic or hospital near your home will help us during the video visit. We make sure that they have the training they need to use our technology effectively.
To get started, we’ll help you download our telehealth software to your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. The best way to access the system is through MyChart (our patient portal), so we can help you set that up too. We’ll provide hands-on training in the form of a “tech check” to make sure you are set up prior to your appointment, and then you’ll be ready to get started.

What to do before your virtual visit
The checklists below can help you prepare for your virtual appointment, whether it's at home or from your local pediatrician's office, partner health clinic or hospital:
-
Call your insurance company
Check in with your insurance company on whether and how your telehealth appointment will be covered. To do that, simply call your plan’s member services department. You can find the phone number on the back of your child’s insurance card. Read more about insurance coverage and helpful questions to ask your insurance provider.
-
Set up your device
You’ll receive detailed instructions from your scheduling team, which will guide you through the steps and technical requirements for accessing your telehealth appointment. You’ll get these through MyChart if you have an account. If you don’t already have a MyChart account, please ask for one at the time you schedule the appointment. Watch our Preparing for Your Telehealth Visit video in English or Spanish.
-
Install the software
You can download it on your computer, tablet or smartphone. Note: A home Wi-Fi or unlimited cellular data plan is suggested, because the system uses quite a bit of cellular data. If you do not have these plans, please mention it to your scheduling team or the Telehealth Department.
-
Sign the telehealth consent form
Your electronic check-in process will have you sign the Telehealth Consent Form in English or Spanish.
-
Set up your space
Ensure that you have a quiet space with a door that can be closed so you have privacy and are free from distractions, such as pets, siblings, etc.
-
Call your insurance company
Check in with your insurance company on whether and how your partner site telehealth appointment will be covered. To do that, simply call your plan’s member services department. You can find the phone number on the back of your child’s insurance card. Read more about insurance coverage and helpful questions to ask your insurance provider.
-
Know where to go
Contact the scheduling line of your clinic to get an address and directions for the partner provider, clinic or hospital you’ll be visiting for your telehealth appointment.
-
Sign and return the telehealth consent form
Send it to the partner site. If you do not complete this step ahead of time, the partner site will likely provide a consent for you to review and sign. Download a Telehealth Consent Form in English or Spanish.
