Research Institute Bridge Funds (faculty only)
*Please schedule a time to discuss your study with Dr. Fred Suchy by contacting jessica.jensen@childrenscolorado.org.
Funds are available to preserve basic programmatic functions in the period between the loss of one grant and the beginning of another. Funding depends on a high probability of renewal. The award will be granted for the time required for re-application and reviewed by the funding agency, but no longer than 12 months; exceptions to this will be considered on an individual basis and only for one year. An investigator may submit any number of applications, but only one will be funded per calendar year. Awards are available to all regular full- or part-time Children's Hospital Colorado staff.
- Eligible Principal Investigators (PIs) conducting research at Children's Hospital Colorado or University of Colorado.
- Preference will be given to investigators with a history of consistent extramural funding.
- There must be a clear need to maintain a research effort to retain competitive capability.
- Funds to bridge the grant should be "cost shared" between divisions and the Research Institute.
Research Institute Pilot Award (faculty only)
Due Date:

- Award will support acquisition of preliminary data needed for obtaining extramural funding support. The long-term plan for the project must be clearly described in the proposal.
- No funding will be provided for travel or to support PI salary.
- Funding is not to exceed $30,000.
- Progress reports are due to Jessica.Jensen@childrenscolorado.org by either March 1 or September 1 - whichever is before your 1st year funding anniversary and 2nd year funding anniversary (if 2nd year is applicable).

Research Institute Research Scholar Award (RSA) (faculty only)
Due Date:
March 1
September 1
The RSA is available to help new investigators solidify and apply their research training. The Award is for one year, with funding available for a second year if progress has been satisfactory. The award requires a letter from a supervisor guaranteeing that the specified percentage of time is available for research (75%).
- The RSA is intended for beginning investigators (junior faculty) within the first five years of their research careers.
- The applicant must identify a mentor who is committed to working with the investigator throughout the course of their project. A letter of support from the mentor must be included with the application.
- The applicant should currently have limited or no extramural support.
- If greater than 50% of salary is currently being paid from research-based sources, then the applicant is not eligible for a Research Scholar Award. The proposal must include a list showing other support.
- If a research scholar awardee has, or later obtains, additional research funding that includes salary, then the RI award may be prorated.
- The award must be used to cover that part of the PI's salary/benefits needed to complete the research (usually greater than 75% time).
- The total award cannot exceed $100,000 per year.
- Progress reports are due to Jessica.Jensen@childrenscolorado.org by either March 1 or September 1 - whichever is before your 1st year funding anniversary and 2nd year funding anniversary (if 2nd year is applicable).
