The City of Aurora has started a five-phase, three-year construction project near Anschutz Medical Campus. Construction crews have closed lanes on westbound Colfax Avenue and southbound Peoria Street. Please allow extra time to get to your child's appointment.
This construction project is designed to address flood risk in and around the campus by updating the storm water system. Please visit Aurora Water's website for project updates.
At Children's Hospital Colorado, we know it is important to accommodate the family's needs as well as the patient's. Often, a sibling may come along for an appointment and need to be entertained, or parents may need a place to sit and take a grown-up time out. For those reasons and many more, we’ve built kids’ play areas around our hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus.
The Creative Play Center is located on the first floor of our hospital in Aurora, just off the west end of the Fresh Marketplace. Staffed by a supervisor and trained volunteers, the Center offers a free and safe area for patients' brothers and sisters. The center is available on a first-come, first-served basis for children up to 8 years old. This is a great place for siblings to play while you and your child are meeting with your care team.
Child play areas are located on each floor of our hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus. Designed to meet the needs of children from infants to young adults, these play areas provide kids an opportunity to engage in everyday activities. A "safe zone" free from medical procedures and treatments, play rooms help ease the stress of being in a hospital environment.
Child play rooms are staffed by volunteers who provide support and a needed distraction. These volunteers also visit patient rooms for children restricted to their rooms.
Additional play areas are located throughout the hospital, including a play area inside the Ponzio Surgery Center which helps kids and their families relax prior to surgery. Similar rooms are also located in intensive care areas.
Sometimes kids just need to get outside and move around, which is why we have several outdoor areas to grab a breath of fresh air during your stay. There is an outdoor eating area just outside The Fresh Marketplace cafeteria with plenty of room for kids to run free. The Garden of Hope, complete with a walking maze, is located just outside the chapel on the first floor. There is also a family courtyard located outside the cardiology waiting area on the third floor.
There are two playgrounds for kids to enjoy. One is located by the cafeteria's outdoor eating area. The other is located just south of the Gary Pavilion, which houses our psychiatry and behavioral health services and The Kempe Center.
